Need to put up some plasterboard? We’ll tell you how. We’ll also recycle any old plasterboard you give us to with Hippobag.
- Before you start, check for any signs of damp on the wall. Most of the time damp can be treated inexpensively if caught in its early stages. Ignoring the problem or not catching early signs will only result in future expense and headaches.
- You do not necessarily need the thickest plasterboard for your job. The most common thicknesses are 12.5mm and 9.5mm.
- If you are using 12.5mm plasterboard, you will need 40mm plasterboard screws or if you are using 9.5mm board you will need 30mm screws.
- If you are using timber frame to construct your plasterboard wall, must insure the timber is dry. If the timber has not been treated for rot, this could lead to structural damage and damp complications in the future.
If your DIY work results in excess plasterboard, you must be aware of the specific EA regulations for the disposal of plasterboard waste in the UK. Plasterboard disposal must adhere to these EA regulations in order to protect people and the environment from asbestos and other plasterboard implications.
